Food FDA certification

In 2002, the public health security and bioterrorism prevention response act (bioterrorism act) directed the food and drug administration (FDA), the food regulatory agency of the department of health and human services, to take steps to protect the public from threats or actual terrorist attacks on the U.S. food supply and other food-related emergencies.In order to enforce certain provisions of the bioterrorism act, the FDA has made the following provisions：

1. Food is registered with the FDA
2. Shipment of imported food is notified to FDA in advance

These regulations came into effect on 12 December 2003.

Under the U.S. food, drug, and cosmetic act, food importers who import interstate commerce are responsible for ensuring that their products are safe, hygienic, and labeled as required by the United States.All imported food is considered interstate commerce.
